Trust Survey

We conducted a series of surveys in which 50 people participated. One survey examined who locks their door because they do not trust the public, and who leaves it unlocked. The second survey focused on whether or not the participants considered themselves trustworthy.

As a result:
32% of the people said they do not lock their doors, as opposed to the 68% that do lock their doors.
96% believe themselves to be trustworthy, while the remaining 4% consider themselves untrustworthy.
Both of the people that said they were untrustworthy were males.

A decline in social capital leads to a decline of trust in a community. In comparison to the outside world, we live in a tight knit community where trust is more prevalent. But still, the majority of the UNCSA community does not trust their classmates enough to leave their rooms unlocked with valuables inside. However, our community is allegedy full of trustworthy students. Who are we afraid of?

Social Capital Rap

Our social capital is starting to decrease
If you don't join a group, you're more likely to decease.
Bowling alone that isn't any fun

Mobility and sprawl have declined F2FS

And what about marriage? Look at how they end.
Flip a coin and you will see divorce is quite the trend.
Do we blame it on the women with their feminism.
Yeah, they make some dough, but who's cleaning the house?

Trust is a must, when yo livin' in society
Its safer now than ever, don't build up that anxiety
Do you vote? Do you read? Do you get out of the house?
Invite your neighbors over for a dinner with your spouse.

Our pace of life, it goes so fast, their ain't no time for boredom.
Tear down the walls of bathroom stalls let's start a feces forum.

Increase your social capital, and start an interest group

Facebook Lab

For this lab we deactivated our Facebooks for 5 days. We wanted to see how many of our "friends" would notice. These people had to directly contact us while our profile was deleted. We thought that a minimum of 10 people would contact us. This was not the case.......DUN, DUN, DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!

For Eugenia, .54% of her friends noticed. This is 6 out of 1110.
For Nadine, .57% of her friends noticed. This is 4 out of 704.
For Melanie, .75% of her friends noticed. This is 5 out of 671.
For Sarah, .63% of her friends noticed. This is 4 out of 631.
For Ben, .29% of his friends noticed. This is 2 out of 701.

We concluded that Facebook is not relevant to our true social captial. People assume that Facebook is a way of creating and maintaining connections with others. However, the majority of our Facebook friends are not those we regularly communicate with. The average American has 2 true friends, yet on Facebook the average American has 130 friends. Though on average users spend 700 billion minutes total per month, their time is spent in front of a computer screen. Facebook may bring users together but it is in an artificial way.
